How lab grown diamonds are made
Growers start with a thin diamond seed and add carbon to it, either in a high-pressure high-temperature press (HPHT) or by depositing carbon atoms from a gas, layer by layer (CVD). Both methods produce genuine diamond crystal. The rough stone is then cut, polished, and graded exactly the way a mined diamond would be. The process is industrial, but the result is not an industrial-looking product: it is a diamond, faceted by cutters, judged by the same standards.
